People don’t always need advice… they need arms to help, ears to listen and a heart to understand.
— Andressa Riviera, Post-partum Doula
My Name is Andressa Riviera.
Affectionately, the kids call me Dessa, and I love it. Now, I am Dessa, the Doula. I am proud to be certified as a postpartum doula certificate by DONA International.
I have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of families from all walks of life. I came to this profession after 14 years as a neonatologist and pediatric nurse in Brazil, where I worked in the Neonatal ICU for 10 years, and in the obstetrics emergency department for 4 years. After moving to Canada, I worked for 4 years as a nanny for children with multiple needs, so I understand how important support is for a family.
Consistent, judgment-free support
I deeply believe that consistent, judgment-free support in the prenatal, birth and early postpartum days can make a world of difference when transitioning into parenthood. I believe that new parents need and deserve to be nurtured both physically, and emotionally.
A new family who has just been given a start needs adequate food and rest, and at times may need someone who can listen to their story's, and their fears, and rejoice in their triumphs.
I consider it an honour to be allowed to be part of this incredible journey in your family's life.
